What is Fat-Free Mass Index (FFMI)?
Fat-Free Mass Index (FFMI) is an anthropometric metric that measures a person's total amount of lean muscle tissue relative to their height.
Standard Body Mass Index (BMI) only looks at total scale weight and height. Because muscle is significantly denser than fat, a heavily muscled bodybuilder and a sedentary individual with obesity might have the exact same "overweight" BMI of 29.0. FFMI resolves this flaw by subtracting fat mass before evaluating muscularity.
The Mathematics of FFMI & Normalized Formulas
