What is Gematria?
Gematria is an ancient esoteric system of assigning numerical values to letters in a word or phrase, enabling scholars to uncover connections between words of equal sum value. This calculator computes four standard styles:
1. English Ordinal (Simple):
Assigns sequential numbers to standard English alphabet letters: A=1, B=2, ..., Z=26.
2. Pythagorean Full Reduction:
Reduces all letters to single-digit values (1-9) using a basic cyclic sum modulo:
A, J, S = 1 | B, K, T = 2 | C, L, U = 3 | D, M, V = 4 | E, N, W = 5
F, O, X = 6 | G, P, Y = 7 | H, Q, Z = 8 | I, R = 9
F, O, X = 6 | G, P, Y = 7 | H, Q, Z = 8 | I, R = 9
3. Jewish Gematria:
A classic transliteration cypher mapping English letters to their Hebrew equivalent numerals (e.g. A=1, K=10, V=700).
4. Hebrew Gematria:
The traditional alphanumeric coding system for Hebrew biblical characters (e.g. א=1, י=10, ת=400).
